Internal error. CreateBuffers:opening waveIn device failed

Problem:

When pressing Record when using SpeechReport Cursor the following error message pops up: “Internal error. CreateBuffers:opening waveIn device failed”

Cause:

This is a problem caused by the antivirus,  Kaspersky antivirus to be specific.Kaspersky will ( automatically ) classified RC.exe and other Recognosco exe’s as not trusted, but Low Restricted. This means that these exe’s will have restrictions on accessing other processes controlling the system. The OS is providing the OpenDevice method inside the DLL: winmm.dll, this is a system dll, so this action will be blocked by the Application Activity Monitor from Kaspersky, resulting in the error message: Internal error. CreateBuffers:opening waveIn device failed.

Solution:

The solution is to, or let ICT disable completely this “Application Activity Monitor” or let ICT change the RSDK exe’s to Trusted instead of Low Restricted.

Low Restricte:. Applications that do not have a digital signature from a trusted vendor and are not listed in the Kaspersky Lab database of trusted applications. These applications have certain restrictions on accessing other processes, controlling the system, and accessing the network without notifying the user. However, the user's permission is required for most operations.
